2 P6s (Briefly)

Hey,
As of this morning I now have 2x P6s rather than just the one, although it is going to be a brief situation.

I've bought a terminally rusty red car to use for parts, 45303093E for the records, and it got delivered this morning for me to start stripping. It was a hard decision buying a full P6 to scrap as the more kept on the roads the better but it had been for sale on eBay several times with little interest and the base unit is rusted beyond making sense to repair in Australia when there are many cars without rust issues around.

It has an excellent bonnet, front bumper, rust free C pillars and various other bits that are going to come in very useful for my blue one.

If any Aussie members are in need of parts feel free to let me know.

Thought i would post a couple of pictures of it to give it one final hurrah as a complete car before it goes to the big scrap heap in the sky (or more likely the big scrap heap in Dandenong).

Hello Al,

That is most unusual to see a rusty P6 out here in Australia... Did it live by the sea?

Ron.

Yep, this has got to be the worst i have seen for rust, don't know anything at all about its history other than the last rego sticker is from 1993 and its previous owner never gave a dog as an xmas present going from the stickers on the back screen.

It has rotted out totally around where the bonnet hinges attach to the inner wings, all along the sills, right through the boot floor (although not enough to stop there being a small swimming pool in there), along the back valance, through the footwells at the front, through the front inner arches on the left hand side by the jacking points, all along the sills, etc etc etc. It looks like a UK car basically... :) :)

The left had side is so rusty we couldn't get the passenger side front door off without resorting to the angle grinder the mountings are so rotten together.

Anyway, after 5 or so hours it now looks like this....

Amazing how easy they are to take to bits, just a shame they are a bit harder to put back together again in the right order.. :)

Cheers,

Al

Thought i'd post some pics of the rust since it is pretty unusual for P6s to rust out here and this one has gone in some reasonably unusual places...

This surprised me more than anything first of all, it appears something had been living under the inlet manifold on top of the valley gasket.... Lots and lots of droppings and what looks like shells of some kind.....

And at the other end there's the in-boot swimming pool, potentially for whatever was living in the engine to go for a dip on hot days...

And the rust.... Lots and lots of rust...

The little critters always love a V8 valley to shelter in, a 4 cylinder is not up to the job
