I am using Millers classic mini oil in my gearbox and Millers engine oil in the V8. These are both 20/50. Is the difference the ZDDP in the engine oil. Cheers Mick

They probably both have zddp but the mini oil is designed for gearboxes and engines due to the aseries gearbox in sump design

What I'm getting at is can the classic mini oil be used in the engine, seeing as they are both 20/50

You should be able to, because it should have an adequately high level of ZDDP, but the only way to be sure is to check.

Hi Happy days,
With reference to the Millers Classic oils, I used "Classic 20w50" in my 1971 3500 engine but not before I checked with Millers, I contacted a chap called Ian Mosby and he told me that this oil contained Zinc is approx 1000ppm and phosphorous is approx 780ppm which is fine for this engine and I have found this to be excellent but as regards to using it in the gearbox (I presume the box is a manual) I wouldn't be too sure.
Best Regards Dave

There has to be a reason why Millers specifies it for gearboxes otherwise they would only make one 20W/50 for engines and gearboxes. Mind you, do you fill the A Series gearbox via the engine oil filler too?

I tend to keep the oil for what it says it should be used for, but I've just started on my 2nd 25l container of Millers Classic 20W/50 this year  so it's not like I've got lots of the stuff sitting around.

Indeed Dave, nice going!

Millers Classic Mini oil claims to have enhanced EP levels of gear protection, with a GL4 rating (which of course the standard Millers Classic 20W-50 engine oil doesn't have).

This makes the Classic Mini oil seem a good choice for our gearboxes. The semi-synthetic version I used certainly worked well in my 3500S.
