First time I've taken the 2000 out at night, headlight offside not working, but put the lights on main beam and it comes on, turn off main beam and it's off again. So dodgy earth, dodgy light or something else. I have a full set of lights from the V8, for future reference will these be the same. V8 series 2 1974, 2000 series 1 1970. Cheers guys

Quick answer mate is to chuck your spare lamp unit in and see if it comes on for you.... if not its out with the multimeter!

Yes they are the same. Virtually every car built from the 50's to the '80s with twin headlights used the 5 3/4" type so there are plenty out there.
It's probably a dead headlight. The outer ones have two seperate filaments so one can work while the other is blown. Throw it away, it's no good. (actually, try a different one first just in case it's a wiring issue)
