Hallo,
Now I`ve got my new exhaust....I, or rather two different exhaust experts, have found a tiny hole in my manifold  I can weld it for now, but reckoning it may be on it`s last legs...anyone got one that might not be in such a bad way???
Cheers, Drew

We had a '72 TC from new which very quickly developed an apetite for manifolds. Inevitably the garage would try to weld them a few times before giving up and supplying a new one under warranty.

Message is that they are a vulnerable item. First thing then is to check that the alignment of your new exhaust system is not adding to the strains on it. Next check you have a decent set of engine and gearbox mountings to minimise rocking of the engine.

I'd be inclined to persevere with repairing it on the basis that any replacement is unlikely to be much better. Key thing is not to introduce any further stress's. Welding it this may be difficult - I' be inclined to braze it so that the repair heat is lower. The risk of that is that in use you might get the manifold too hot for that to survive too long.

Oh and make sure the engine tune is OK, if its off this could be leading to raised exhaust temperatures.
