2000TC slave cylinder

I have a very heavy clutch, and I am wondering whether the slave cylinder is the problem. Mine is not the correct one, being hung on an angle bracket rather than having ears which bolt to the bellhousing. Does anyone know the correct diameter of the slave cylinder please ?

On all 2000 cars it was 7/8", and on 2200s it was 1".

I have fitted a 2200 slave cylinder in my 2000 TC for years, and it takes considerably less effort to use the clutch now.

Can't recall the diameter at the moment but it is the same cylinder as a classic Mini so should be readily available from your local parts supplier.(and cheap)

Thank you for those suggestions. I am curious about Demetris's answer, as when I looked on the supplier websites, they seemed to suggest that both 2000 and 2200 used the same cylinder of 7/8 inch . Strange, and because it has been so wet today I have not grovelled under the car to measure mine !

As both cylinders fit both cars this is true, but it is not how it started at the factory. The one inch cylinder is much more rare than the 7/8" one, so there's no surprise that they don't bother too much with the later type. Apart from the Rover 2200 it was only fitted in the Sprite / Midget 1275 or something like this. (I don't remember very well now.)
