after a bright start , everything is starting to break down as expected.
the main problem i find now is that when warm it decreases in revs and finally stalls and is difficult to start ,
the fuel pump has been re-furbished, theres lots of fuel in the car.

the carbs have been sorted, cleaned , re-furbished and set up.
i'm going to fit an electronic ignition anyway but i can't drive too far cos it won't start again until the battery winds it over fast enough to start.
hmmm, been polishing it so it looks not as rough and will post some photo's when i remember.
flipping thing
i did expect it though as it was 28 years in a garage
does old underseal become porous over time?
mine seems to be in places?
i could be totally wrong but can it?

Dunno about underseal becoming porous as such, but it does start to come away in places allowing water to get behind it and then be held there. Voila! Rust!

We need some pics!

its odd for some underseal is darker around the edges which looks like moisture?
it has come off in many places and i am scraping all of it off and re doing it
quite solid underneath
just keeps breaking down !
when we get more reliable i'll take a spin up your way if you're about and you can see for yourself for hook isn't too far away

the brown thing is being a pain!
it runs well at times and then won't start!
unless you have a strong battery
i suspect its fuel but the carbs and fuel pump have been rebuilt
compression is ok
i need to change the radiator now for its like an underbonnet sprinkler system ejecting a fine mist everywhere when hot.
possibly not a bad idea mind

i had a certain star test driver y'day say it didn;t drive as shite as she expected!
i took it as a compliment!
gotta get it ok for new years day on the prom!

High Praise indeed from Classic Rovers very own Sabine Schmitz

John.

It runs and it drives,!
better anyway, I, ve not broken dpwn at all this week !
just getting up the courage to drive more than a mile now.

I, m trying to use it as often as I can now so the next adventure is to the pub quiz on thursday
I did discover the fuel filter was gunked so thats sorted and I may need to drain the tank in the near future
its just finding time, roll on those fine summer evenings!

After a year of going no where ownership due to never resolving the non starting prob , mot time came around again.
I never made the end of my driveway!
electronic ignition has been fitted after a bit of a game in which I was sent the wrong gear! God knows how!
The water pump gave up in the driveway, as I was sat there thinking oh dear oh dear, 3 young lads cycled by and one shouted out"nice car",
still, nother exhaust fitted as well as a water pump and hey presto, it runs ok.
After 15 mins, enough to get warm , it then will refuse to restart .
theres fuel at the carbs and I, m wondering what to replace next?
Still, now to see how it mot, s, if it, ll run that long
my thinking is that if it plays up in the garage then thats not a bad place fo break down.
We shall see.
picking up a new set of clothes for it this weekend, 4 wings ans front valance and rear decker all in the correct colour!
and minus rusty holes too!
Did I say correct colour?its mexico brown, the wings I, m getting are shiney brown, gotta be mexico! Ha, its the nearest I get to gambling. Could be brazillia but heigh ho
I, ll know more tomorrow,
j

Yes, its a new electronic ignition
I tried starting it this morning and suprisingly no success at all?
I should be at work really so I haven, t time to play at tne mo.
I had to give the mileage to the ins company and its only 44306
I can see why!
sometimes a low mileage car isn, t a good thing , grrrrr

Been there. If you've gunked one filter, then have several spares on hand. My Sunbeam Alpine would clog one in three days driving to work. In the end I had the tank acid cleaned.

Just a few pics
I, m not entering 'scrap heap challenge' by the way although these pics may suggest it.
at the current rate of progress , expect new wings fitted by about this time next year.
it was mot, d last year minus one cill cover to show the welding.
I, ve not actually put it back on yet but it is solid, black and shiney! :)

That looks smart! Better than your descriptions suggested it would be!

What's that keyhole half way up the boot lid? Some kind of comedically ineffective 80s alarm?

I think you misunderstood me. It is precisely the new replacement rotor arms which are causing so many of the very type of problem you are experiencing. The plastic specification seems to be wrong ( probably too high in carbon ) and they become conductive when hot, thus shorting out the HT circuit . Also, i don't wish to discourage you, but in my fairly small group who tour together, we have thrown away 5 electronic systems this year !( and gone back to points )

I hear what you, re saying but it was rubbish before the electronic ignition was fitted
so its something i fear
just getting the correct set was a mare.
It started tonight when I got in, yippee
Nearly suffocated my elderly neighbours mind but I did the decent thing and ignored them.
not really!
still, it started and off out now to park it correctly, if indeed it starts again
I know it needs the ign timing checking and the carbs balancing for the exhzust waS blowing rather making things tricky
So I, m told as I personally haven, t a clue
As I haven, t with the keyhole in the boot?
I, ll have a look though
Oddly, irs not the 1st I, ve seen
I hate alarms, are they more trouble than they are worth?...
