3500 S1 in the right colour

Now you've got me going too, Adam. I count two items under the bonnet. one on the exterior and one on the interior. I'd make it a middle period S1, neither very early nor very late (now for you to guess why I say that!).

Chris

Looks like a nice genuine car, shame the interior is such a mess. Chassis number is 42600629F so a UK built export car. Unusually for a NZ car it has a touring kit and roof aerial. Maybe they were added later? Rear pillars look to be painted, not vinyl and obviously the trans has been replaced (upgraded?) Presumeably the shifter was done at the same time.
Are those carpets actually green or is it mould?

Yes red cap on passanger side, 65 is always better than a 35 bigger numbers are always better

That's not an 'early' one at all - late 1969, at a guess.

Shows how few 426----- cars there were.

Still, it's a Pepperami, and we love 'em :D

Looks a nice car, bar the vinyl rear pillars.

Perfect colour for a P6, too, but I may be biased ;)

Nick, how can you tell it is (or isn't, if I've missed the point) a 426 car?

For the uninitiated, (me!) is that just a later build than a car with chassis number beginning with 425?

Mine begins with 4251 and wasn't registered until 1st August 1970. Chris Yorke's 'Lucky' is very close to mine in build and also on a J (registered after Aug 1970).

Thanks! :)

Hi Jim

The first three digits of the chassis no indicate what model it is. Thus 425... is a UK home market 3500. 426.... is a RHD export 3500. Simples. There are similar variations in the 4 cyl cars too.

It's a mid period S1 because it has the speedo with all the mph markings the same size. Very early and very late have alternating small and large markings and a nice Rover shield badge at the right of the speedo strip.

I also get a non original screen wash bottle, a rad overflow bottle and the interior retrim and painted rear 1/4 panels. Overall very nice though.

Fixed rear quarterlights were normal for 1969/70. The lack of hrw is typical of NZ cars, we didn't expect such luxuries in those days!
JT says 1866 cars built with a 426 chassis #: 49 in '68, 602 in '69 and 1215 in '70 so this is one of the last built for the '69 model year.
I would have thought that the most obvious clue to it being a 1969 was the heading of the advert!
