3500 V8 65amp alternator upgrade

Evening all Newbie into P6 ownership for the first time with a couple of questions I have tried looking around the internet with no such luck however more often than not many search results brought me back to this forum so here I am. Here is hoping I have put this in the correct section of the forum.

Now long story short I have purchased myself a running project to get myself into historic /classic vehicle ownership and hopefully something to get regular use out of.

No doubt the first of many questions I have is that the alternator (Lucas 11AC apparently) has seen better days and also doesn't want to charge etc. So in my very limited knowledge of vehicle electrics I decided to go down the route of an 65 amp internally regulated "uprated" item, however once I purchased it I was informed that this will require wiring in to suit, so then I purchased a plug to suit the 3 spades on the back with a length of wire to continue on with to wire into the car. Now looking for some guidance on how to go about this and what to take out and add too etc, as said I have very limited knowledge in this field and the only instructions I received with the Alternator were "Larger spades to the battery and the smaller spade the dash charge/ Battery lamp" although I think I have tried this I don't seem to have much luck in the new alternator actually working.

Can any of you offer any help at all? Photos, links or a guide in what I should actually be doing?

Thanks in advance.

The 11AC is pretty crappy really, basically a low output device designed to replay a dynamo without any redesign of the existing wiring. so the A127 is a good upgrade - and it really is this one you should use because it physically aligns using the original 11AC bracket. Other models may/may not require a change of pulley or bracket.

I'll add a few pictures to that thread.... It's actually quite easy. There are only really two things to do.

1) make sure you have thick enough wires (with the right connectors)
2) bypass the 3AW

Note that later models cheaped out and don't have the 6RA relay as show in the diagram in case you are looking in vain!

The 3 spades are actually one, unified Lucas/Bosch terminal - it's worth buying the correct item.. The two big 1/2" spades are for power and the 1/4 small one is the excitor circuit and the ignition warning light.
