60's London

Oh my word those pictures are nothing short of amazing...!!! If only we could turn back time and go back there ourselves... Some of those images look so crisp and clear they could've almost have been taken yesterday! I reckon the photographers motor is a Tartan Red Mini that turns up in quite a few pictures...?! Volvo P1800's appear quite regularly as do Jensen CV-8's along with all the other 1960's motoring ubiquity...!

What a find, superb stuff! :D
London doesn't really seemed to have changed that much either really, as Grifter said, some of those pics look like they could have been taken yesterday.

Tried to see if I could spot my dad or his Triumph Vitesse, as he worked in Regent street at the time
It looks like one of the pics also shows a white P1800 with the reg ST 1 too!

Was this guy in the film Business? check out the white Vauxhall Victor reg is RXD 996 F.

Not sure if the volvo from the saint is in there as the reg is hard to make out but def looks like 3 letters "ST1" it is in quite a few photos though some have Black plates.

I need to get out more!!!

These pictures are great.

Lots of lovely cars. Saw 3 P6s I think, one was a G reg. Think I saw the rear end of a P5 too. Lots of Z cars and Mk1 Cortinas, inc a Mk1 Cortina estate in the same colours as one of my dad's (blue with white flash down the sides)

Amazing to see the streets so empty too.

Thanks Chris

Thanks for finding these Chris. They're absolutely wonderful.

I think they're taken over several years - some are 1963 or earlier judging by the cars (and the electric trains at Waterloo without yellow fronts), others circa 1967.

Amazing.

What a fantastic dip into the past, really enjoyed that. I have now subscribed to flickr on the strength of it. So glad that this stuff is still about, reminds me of a lost London especially the lit up signs at piccadilly circus, childhood memories there.
Thanks to Chris for putting them up.

There has to be an ITC connection here...

Volvo P1800 = The Saint
Vauxhall Victor FD = Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)
Jensen C-V8 = The Baron

...as those cars feature quite heavily in these pictures!

There could well be.
I wonder if the guy was a location finder, or out with the film crew when they were shooting scenes for the programmes maybe.....

the car I'd spotted in a number of photos is that light grey Jensen CV8, so distinctive it jumps out at you. I hadn't spotted the other two repeat. Having been brought up in that era I tend not to see the P1800's as they were too common then.

I did spot the rear end of an FD Ventora, hadn't registered an FD Victor. Plenty of FB's though, including a nice VX4/90. FC's were always very very rare with very good reason! Isn't Randall and Hopkirk too new to generate these sort of pictures though?

Hi, bit of a late 60's/early 70's guy myself. These clips were a great nostalgia trip. See what you mean re ITC film stuff, thought I saw Jason Kings(got the dvd full set)claret Mulliner Park Ward Bentley coupe too. Reminds me of my favorite TV series , The Persuaders (got the DVD full set, again !). Days of being able to drive round London with freedom, no cameras on every bus lane/traffic light system/ speeding etc; penalty charges where ever you go. London's definately a more hostile and angry place these days, particulary towards the motorist.

Loved all of those :)
Plenty of Rover spotting in the 70s one 8) amongst many other cars you don't see around now, even compared to the P6.
