69 LHD p6, how much is it worth?

Hi, I have spotted a 1969 V8 P6 for sale here in Ireland, its a left hand drive car so god knows where it came out of, it has a red leather interior, the body colour is a kind of gunmetal grey, it has the rectangular speedo, is a manual and on rostyle wheels, the vendor is looking for €1200, just curious to know would any one reckon it would be a good buy even for parts at that or is it a bit pricey, any opinions appreciated, I was considering viewing it, thanks.

sounds like a well loved car with its upgrades and possibly no tin worm.

Sounds interesting. Probably a European market car. Burnt grey was the only factory grey available at the time which has quite a brownish tinge to it so most likely a respray. Red leather interiors are lovely so if it is in good nick...The strip speedo is correct for a series 1 V8 though the manual box is not so it will have been converted. Do you know if it is a 4 spd (3500S P6) or 5 spd? (SD1). A 5spd conversion is certainly worth having.
If the Rostyles are proper P6 ones (14"), these are highly sought after and a decent set just sold on Ebay for just over 500GBP!
It's certainly worth a look, if nothing else, a series 1 V8 in LHD is a fairly rare beast. Although it would have to be reasonanbly solid to be worth the money imo.

In the UK a V8 with long MoT and no obvious pitfalls would be around £1,800. BUT the state of the base unit is crucial, and the only way you can assess this is to go and see it. IF it's good and the interior is tidy it could fetch a lot more. If not then a LOT less. The description sounds promising but you'd really have to see it. Exterior panels not that important until you start talking really big money.

A P6 is extremely easy to convert between left and right drive. An S1 is probably more desirable than an S2. Check the Rostyles are P6 (14") and not P5 (15").

Do others agree with that assessment?

Chris

In Ireland cars over 30 don't have to undergo an MOT so maybe the base unit is not great, it appears on closer inspection of the ad it is indeed a 5 speed gearbox. I did not realise a P6 can easily be converted to right hand drive, this makes me more interested! hopefully it will still be there next week when I can get some time to have a look at it, I will update this on tuesday or wednesday if I get a look at it, thanks.

Hi,

My brother (in Northern Ireland) sold a 1969 left hand drive V8 (French export model) with rostyles to someone in Southern Ireland about seven years ago.

I helped him do the 5 speed conversion. It was an easy conversion, including getting a left hand drive manual pedal box.

When he sold it, it had a superb base unit. Only rust on that car was in the doors and he had replaced those a few months before he sold it.

The reg was AVK 81H, I think, when he sold it. However as it went South, it will probably have had to be reregistered to a ZV plate. A chat with the current owner would be useful.

It was 'Burnt Grey' in colour with Red Leather interior. It had the thin chrome export side strips.

Is that the car? He would love to hear where abouts it is now.

There can't be many LHD series 1 V8s with a 5 speed conversion in Ireland'

Would hate to ever see it broke for parts.

Hi Stephen. Just looked at the photos. Yes it seems to be the car. I remember the rev counter and clock pod and the extra guages in the centre speaker grille. I have emailed the Donedeal ad to my brother. He regrets selling it.

Regards,

Colin
