Hi guys, Put the 2000 engine in, got it started tonight, bloody thing knocks like hell. I have removed the rocker cover and sump to see if I can see anything, but I cant see why its knocking . so its a good engine I will be after, there was a tight spot when I put it in but I put this down to the engine standing, oh well, start again. :(

Thanks guys, I put it back togeather, started it up and only a very slight knock, I pulled it out of the garage by this time it was knocking like hell. the engine had been standing for a long time. It sounds as if the knock is coming from the front of the engine, could it be timing chain?, or maybe oil pump?. it looks as if I am going to have to strip it down. cheers guys

Does the car have an oil pressure gauge ? If so what sort of readings are you getting at idle.

I had a big end let go on a 2.2 and the old pressure was low (warning light coming on) at idle, but ok when reved, this got worse until the knocking started, then it was only a couple of hundred miles until it died. When I dropped the sump I had a good 1/4 inch of play in one of the big ends.

I suppose what I'm saying is, if it's got good oil pressure at idle, then it maybe something else like the chain, or a valve seat/tappet.
