Abolition of the driving licence paper counterpart

For those of you in the UK, DVLA have given advice on the abolition of the driving licence paper counterpart. It goes as of 1st Jan 2015.

Wow, I've only just got a photo card one last year.

Hi, to be honest, it's about time because the paper bit is of little use to most people.
The only times I have shown it is to the company for the six monthly licence inspection
to check for convictions. I have known some people when they think they are going to
get points have claimed a lost licence and obtained a duplicate which then becomes the
current licence with the points on. They then show the original clean licence to the
company and they don't know any different. But now the company get to do there own
check.

Good question!! There is no reason that could not be put on a card, apart from the cost
of the card.

It is progressing, but it won't be for a few years yet. It is going to start with optional paperless V5s for fleet operators.
