Advice on Roof & Screen removal

Today I started to strip my first P6 as the base unit is just to far gone. Decided I would strip her completely and salvage/save as much as I can. Today I removed all the wings, the seats, roof lining, front air scoop, front scuttle panel, front bumper, seat belts and all door post trims.

Tomorrow I am hoping to remove all the doors, the dash board, the boot and rear vallance. I want to remove the front and rear windows but want to try and save the seals too (if that is possible) aswell as the roof. Having never removed the windows or roof I am looking for advice on how to do it. I have removed all the screws I can see that hold the roof on but the bonding/sealent is holding it tight. Any one done this and willing to offer advice. Also should I have removed the chrome trim on the front door posts/rain gutters?

I will be removing the engine next (With the front vallance removed it should be easy to get it out in one lump) and then the running gear (as with all the other bits removed including engine I will roll the car over on its side so making it easier to work on)

re removing the roof You could try cutting it carefully with an old kitchen knife, it will take a bit of time,

if you are striping the car completly is there any chance of selling me the front diff x member? as mine has been repaired but my welder isn't sure how long it will last as he did a rush job on it :D

hi jules65,
the rear quarter panels need to be removed as there is a screw either side and the headlining needs removing as there are also 6 screws front and back to be removed, rain guttering ! the ones on the top corner ( three way ) needs to be removed as the roof panel sits under there. if you want to ring me for any further advice please do so on 01302 750747 or 07761 329149.

hi again,
screen removal is easy ( putting it back in properly is the hard bit ) the metal brackets that push them up at the bottom of the screen have two nuts on them, the one on the top needs to be screwed upwards/ anti-clockwise until it reaches the top of the bracket it will then be loose enough to remove, the rear screen is the same but the bottom nut needs to be removed so you can pull it out of the base unit, ( if you want to save the bracket ) 7/16th spanner required. window should drop down easily and you will be able to save the seal.

I took 2 roofs of earlier this year - if its the original mastic/seal its a black non- setting stuff (I can buy similaer stuff in yellow tins called dumdum) Anyway once you have all the fixings out as above you may need to start to break the seal by gentle levering with a screw driver - I done this at the windscreen pillars - as soon as the roof moved I was able to push it up all theway round from underneath - Kept one roof to recover with new vynil a job thats getting close to the top of my list, the other was a good source of rust free steel for repairs on a car I no longer have - 'repaired the OE steel' !!!
