Will someone please tell me what is the original colour of the Air Filter Box? I'm in the mood for doing some Under Bonnet Titivating, Spring must be in the air :?
Julian.

Hello Julian,

The colour varies, I assume due to the year of manufacture. I am talking about the V8 here.
Some were painted in gloss black, whilst others were in a satin silver.

My car is 1972, so do I go for the black or the silver? Thanks Ron.

1972 should be the silver, although it's not any kind of silver that you'll be able to get out of a can, or replicate very easily at all I would think. If you get a chance to look at one you'll see what I mean.

I bought this car last September, and up until today I have told everybody that the bodywork is Monza Red, but today I came across the little tag, which had been painted over, and discovered that the colour is Brigade Red, the world of paint and the shades of, is something of a mystery, well to me it is, I remember, many years ago, being told that there were nine shades of black used in the car industry, I never did find out if it was fact or not, but somehow I don't disbelieve it!! Oh well I'll be looking for some unusual silvery/grey paint tomorrow, not a gloss, I don't think, Many thanks for your help.
Julian.

Hello Julian,

As Harvey indicated, the silver colour is not typical and not likely to be found easily from a tin. If my memory serves me correctly, the finish is like hammered metal,...so in that regard if you look for a silver in a hammered metal finish, you may well be close to the mark.

Ron.
