I have been playing with the induction on the 4.6 and as well as tickling the 2" HS8 SU's have also been thinking about filters.
I was looking at K&N filters to fit inside the stock airbox, but at 70 quid a pop thought again.
So I bought a pair of these
Rover Montego XE 1984-1993 Estate Crosland Air Filter Element Round Type Engine | eBay
They are the same diameter as the original, but over twice as long. By cutting the raised sealing sponge off both ends they clear the central inlet hole.
I ran an M6 tap through the existing threaded holes for the retaining screw and used some M6 studding about 4 1/2" long and a nut to secure them.
I will also make a nice bellmouth for the airbox inlet which will get cold air from the bonnet scoop.
Idle has improved and the engine feels nice and snappy.
