Sounds like the anti-roll bar. From memory it bolts into a specially formed recess in the top of the suspension link near the bulk head on both sides.. Because of its shape it resists twisting so when one side lifts, it trys to lift the other reducing the roll of the car. I think ther is a rubber bush or cushion each end.
