...and yet another garage project!

So...having got the inside of the house something like (new kitchen, bathroom, etc) and inspired by pilkie and others, I decided this would be the year I started spending what's left of my daughter's inheritance on a sorely-needed home for OCY - and somewhere dry to work on her!.

Starting point...

Deep breaths...and off we go! :)

And the garage base at last! :)

Pause for a couple of weeks, including a few days away camping - and the Beamish Rally! Then...

It's 28'3" x 14'6" external and 7' to the eaves...I wanted plenty of working room around the car. I did briefly consider a pit, but I've never really fancied them. With the extra height I can get the car 2' up in the air if necessary.

Walls and floor painted...

Fitting out!

And OCY at home!

Still loads to do. Next step, electrics. I've put in an underground duct through which I'll pull a 10 sq. mm. armoured cable. Then the patio needs doing, and slabbing down the side of the garage - as long as the cash doesn't run out!

hi,
looks excellent. you can't beat having the width to work on the car on those rainy days. i am in the process of moving and a few priorites while we were looking. bigger garden for the kids, box ticked 90 foot x 80 foot back garden, 5 beds box ticked, garage as i don't currently have one at my own home only where i work. again box ticked, it was built on a few years ago and is attached and is 24 foot long x 13 foot 6 wide so can work on my car when it is raining, you can't beat being able to open both doors and work on it, so again box ticked. down side it has a smaller bathroom but more downstairs space but needs a new kitchen, wish i could take my own as it is only two years old. any way i am getting away from what i started about the new house keeps both my wife happy, the kids and the biggest kid of all ME happy. just waiting for the solicitors, surveyors etc.

hi,
i have a pit at work, built one in my first home. the scissor lift is of no use if you need to get to the prop, gearbox etc. a pit is more practical, but also more of a pain to get in and out of and obviously hard work to dig out in the first place.

Thanks for all the comments! It's been a bit of a slog...and my back's let me know it!

That's a fine looking garage
Looks like you don't believe in flowers and grass in your garden - wise man
Dave, I've never really got the garden thing. I much prefer inanimate stuff like steel, wood, aluminium, etc. to deal with. They're much more predictable and tend to stay in the shape you put them in!

Have you cosidered a scissor lift??
Something like this!!

Can be laid flat against a wall when not in use or park the car over it!
Yep...been looking at all sorts of options but the wallet may have to recover first! CJ Autos (amongst others) do some good stuff.

Glad you've got YOUR priorities worked out and included on the checklist!

Cheers,

I'm with richarduk on the envy front there

Fantastic set up there Stan, especially after the weekend I've just had under the car in the street. Where on earth did you keep all that kit before the garage?

Hi Dave,

Most of it was in the conservatory, which I'd taken over as a workshop! Including the bench which I'd put together from some pallet racking that was gathering dust at work.
100_1122.jpg

...and now returned to it's former state! :) - just needs furnishing now!
100_1411.jpg

A bit more pallet racking went into the new garage after a couple of cuts on the verticals with an angle grinder. And (in true Rover fashion) the racking's slightly over-engineered - having a SWL of 2500 kgs per shelf uniformly distributed across the beams!

Cheers,

Hello Stan,

Gee it look good.. :D It's all happening then..!!

Ocy will certainly be loving you for keeping him out of the weather.

Ron.

I hope there's enough room to get the 620 in there as well........

I just wish I'd sealed and painted the floor in mine before filling it up. I managed to paint the walls but that was it. Hopefully I can clear half of it and paint the floor half at a time.

Just found this forum again, so sorry about the late post. Great looking garage! I wish I'd sealed and painted the floor on mine straight away. The engine blew up on my daily driver, so I was forced to use my freshly finished garage to rebuild the engine. Got oil on the virginally clean fresh concrete before I could paint it. I was well gutted, as the floor paint wouldn't stick, or even dry in one patch. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, I know I enjoy mine, I'm still like a kid with a new toy... :D
