Another bench-mark 'pusher'...?!

I announced it in the lounge about 3 weeks back Stina. It got caught out by the 3yr rule, I change my classic every 3yrs regardless. The Rover was bought in 2010 so had been living on borrowed time. I got a deal which suited me, so it went. I've been using my Mk1 Escort since and I've been having a hoot on the back roads, until I put it on the motorway on Sunday, Whoa was it slow and noisy compared to a P6b!
I cannot sell the Escort as it has been in the family for over 20yrs. I'll still be hanging around here as I've no where else as nice to go, and I've a pile of spares to sort out and dispose of.

John.

You will be back after finding out the Escort doesn't cut it on the M ways!
Go on break the 3yr rule!
I seem to have had a 10yr rule for my last 3 daily drivers,1973 XJ6,then a 1975 Dolly Sprint, and then the Rover, but ive had it nearly 15yrs as my daily, and dont want to change!,,,,,YET!!!

How about a zetec conversion? A Mk 1 Escort weighs 800kg or thereabouts. 130bhp from a bog standard 2litre and a 5 speed box should make an entertaining drive. Got to be looking at 7.5 ish 0-60.

Popping a Zetec in a Mk1 Escort is quite a popular convertion as they are a good engine and can be 'dressed up' to look like a period twin-cam unit!

I'd definitely go down the Zetec route but then I will never be able to justify the cost of buying a Mk1 Escort now...

Anyhow, let's hope that even though exceptional P6's are climbing in value the more usable ones will still stay in reach of the mere mortals of this world...
