Hi im Andy im a self confessed petrol head and i recently baught a 1972 P6 v8 which oddely enough is my first P6..
i dont know why as iv had loads of classics mostly Fords and although iv always liked P6's somehow never thought to buy one.. until now..
sold my Consul Capri and decided to move up in the world and bought the Rover.. its a good solid car that just needs a little bit of tlc mainly the roof as the sunroof has perished, not sure wether to get it rebuilt or hunt down a hard top.. anyway im in north London and its blue with the spare on the boot lid so if you see me about the place or up high beach or the Ace Cafe give me a toot or say Hi.. cheers Andy

Nice! but that sunroof looks a bit dodgy, used to do the ford thing many years ago as well mostly Zephyrs and Zodiacs, you are right the Rover is a step up  in many ways but in some others maybe not.

PS the roof looks white, it dont match the rest of the colour scheme so it could be a good oppotunity to unbolt the lid(as they are only screwed on) and get another good one and paint it to suit your colour scheme.

Welcome to a great forum, that does look a nice 'S' and in a cool blue too (more pics are always welcome!). These guys can restore your sunroof should you decide you want to...

Hi yes i got the car from a friend called wendel who lives in north London Stamford Hill but before that it was owned for many years by another friend of mine Fitzy who lives in Wood Green so you may know it from there/him.
The roof looks odd i know im just trying to decide wether to get the sun roof rebuilt (in black) and the roof re trimed to match or just unbolt it and put a hard top on (in black of course) the interior needs a bit of tlc and the distributor keeps playing up so im going to fit electronic ignition as soon as i can work out just what dist i have...

Hi thanks for the link i have already spoke to them and they can rebuild the sun roof for me but they are unable to fit it so i will have to find a coachtrimer to fit it? would you know if there is much to fitting it yourself once its been rebuilt, i should of asked at the time as im wondering if it needs to be fitted by a proffesional or not?
Although fitting a hard top does appeal more to me.. decisions decisions..

Hmmm, blue with white roof, the color scheme of taxis in Thessaloniki! :D

Not quite its blue with a white and silver highlights roof.. very rare Rover only made a few limited edition ones due to the high price of gaffer tape
i know it really lets the car down but stay tunned as it going to look better soon .. well as soon as i decide wether to rebuild of replace the roof.. but on a good note the car is good and solid no know rust spots and never welded so fingers crossed i have a good car once sorted.........

To be honest I never had one off so can't really say how hard it is, but I have a feeling it'd become apparent once you undo the rear plate from inside the car. Mine was a Britax roof with six or eight recessed nuts hidden behind plastic covers on the metal panel above the rear seats.

Don't worry about the roof.

You can get them recovered. You can also undo a load of screws and it comes off as a complete panel so can be replaced with a painted steel or vinyl covered one which would look really smart with the blue.

I have to agree with you i think thats the best option i just found a plain steel roof for sale so i might well go for the roof swop option then get it vinyl coverd as not only will it set the car off nicely it will be considerably cheaper to do that getting the sun roof rebuilt.. i didnt relise the roof could unbolt until after i got the car, i thought my friend was winding me up when he said i could remove it.. i really like my P6 just cant think why i didnt get one sooner... :)

And I guess you realize that all the body panels are just screwed on too, Smart cars were not the first for that innovation, colour change can be accomplished relativly fast. Personaaly I am not a fan of vinyl roof coverings as the surface gets sun damaged alot quicker than paint which you can just recut, but I am in NZ where UV light is real problem for plastics, in your case a black vinyl roof cover will look OK but then so would a nice blue painted roof.

That all makes sense :) I'm sure I've seen it at the garage that used to be in Hornsey over the years, might even have worked on it

Wow hadnt seen that one before.. thats a original paint job.. a lot of work has gone into the car thou.. I had one that had been made into a convertable and another 63 normall hard top coupe that i put a essex v6 into and that was a lot of messing about..
They are great looking cars but even in standard trim they do not drive very well, the rear suspension is really bad i converted mine to take normall shock absorbers.. sadley not as good as they should of been but then Ford got it right on the button with the consul/MK1 cortina.. but still a great looking car..

Yep :) Bikerama, those were the days  That was my Dads garage before he moved out of London. The neighbours used to love the Rover lined roads
Good to see it still around
