Any good auto electricians in Rugby / Midlands area..?

Afternoon all,

Now that my 3500 Auto is back from a certain Mr Dunning's attentions to it's bodywork (stunning paint!), I have some electrical problems to sort out before I feel confident enough to use it for getting to work on night shifts.... so, can anyone recommend a good auto electrician who can be trusted with a thirty nine year old P6, preferably in my own area?

Nick and his oppo Duncan Gill reckon that whoever fitted my car's tow bar somehow bypassed the original fusebox when installing the associated wiring, causing some serious problems with the lights, indicators, brake lights etc, and causing part of the fusebox to melt. The tow bar has been removed now but the problem still persists, even after a bit of nudging here and there with the wiring that's visible inside the boot area. Switching on the headlights, only the off side outer lamp comes on, but knocking the stalk up for 'full beam' illuminates all four front lamps.... very odd!

Any thoughts, suggestions or a nod towards someone who can do the work would be most gratefully received! (I'd like to get it sorted asap as I have a 'Sweeneyesque' photo op in London coming up on 10th April)

Cheers in advance,
Nidge.

Folk used to wire them to have four main beams back in the day. It was considered an upgrade on P6s Triumph 2000, Capris etc :)
I hate electricity myself

IIRC, dip beam was the outer two lights, main beam all four; the outer two having dip/main filaments. If it isn't a typo and you do only have 1 light on dip, then the dip filament has gone. To the best of my knowledge, the issue with the outer lights only giving dip and the inner ones only giving main did not start appearing until vehicles started moving to the QI/halogen units, and even then wasn't universal.

Thanks TonyS, that sort of makes sense  . Just been out for my first drive since Nick bought the car back and the n/s side light doesn't come on either! Indicators now working ok BTW.

Had a little 'surge' of smug self satisfaction as the V8 burble bounced off the houses down our road though.... doesn't take much to perk yourself up sometimes does it :D

The problem is in the nearside glove box with the partially melted original fusebox. There's a lot of spagetti in there where an auxillary fuse box has been rather haphazardly piggy-backed onto it, and that is where the connections are weak. The whole thing needs tidying up. The tow bar electrics in the boot were also a mess, which we have tidied up and should not now be causing a problem.

The wiring problems in the glove box should be basic stuff though to any competent auto electrician, and they should be able to make it good.

The nearside side light was working when I left to bring the car home, so may just simply be bulb.

Cheers
Nick
