Hi guys, found the knock, I had the sump off, mains out, big end shells out, The crank looked good, put new ones in, still had a knock. It sounded as if there was a loose nut or bolt in the engine, being tossed about. It was the timing chain sliders, they are now done and the engine now runs well. on the plus side I had to fit my 2200 carb to my 2000 engine and it seems to run well on it with no set up. I will now be on the look out for a set of tan seats and door cards.cheers guys.

Well done that man! :D :D :D You won't regret having done the mains and big ends. The 4 cylinder P6 seems to need them at roughly 60k mile intervals as a routine service item. My speculation is that the large holes in the side of the block, covered by the side plates, make the block rateher less rigid than it night have been, and so the bearings are not as well supported as they seem.

From memory I'm sure I read 30k for big ends and 50k for mains, but I could be dreaming ! I'm sure there aren't many who have replaced them that frequently.
