I've reset my idle (the wife claims I should know all about idle ?!), and hey presto a mild "kerchunk" when going between reverse and drive, instead of a thud that made the whole car shake !. Who would have thought 2-300 rpm would have made such a difference.
In a way I'm amazed a engine can idle so low and not judder to a halt, never mind not stalling when pulling away. Must be those 8 pistons and 3.5L that does it, beats a Mini engine every time !
