auxilary coolant fan

I started a thread regarding fitting the electrics for an Auxilary fan but I have another query, I got the diamensions from kenlow for a fan for my V8 which is 320mm Dia by 75mm in depth, I took the eggshell grill off my car and found that the distance infront of the the radiator is to narrow in depth to fit the fan so what mods are required?.

Required john

When I fitted one to Thunderdog, I moved the rad back about half an inch or so by IIRC welding a large washer onto the body just behind the original fixings (the ones half way down the rad).

Sparky had a piece cut out of the front valance - can send you a pic if you like.

That's interesting to hear John, I assume they recommend the 2 speed one for you not the slimline one? I have also been looking into this and couldn't see how I would be able to squeeze that 2 speed fan in as there's only 45mm between the radiator and the water pump nose.

I've been investigating shortening the water pump rather than moving the radiator and cutting the cross member. Anyone any thoughts on this?

Mine is in front of the radiator, and I moved the rad backwards to gain a bit of space.

Hi quattro, I had another look at my car over the weekend and, using a cardboard mock up of the fan, concluded that making a cutout on the valance just under the plastic grill might be the easiest way to fit one. Could you post a quick snap of the cutout made in yours if you have time please?

Cheers.

I will take a pic later and post it up for you.

Here you go - these ok?

Thanks for that. It confirms what I was thinking about making a similar cut out.

One last question though if I may. Is that fan used on it's own or in conjunction with the fixed fan too?

what does IIRC mean?

If I remember correctly, it's an acronym. Although strictly speaking it doesn't make a word so therefore it's just an initialism :)

Seriously, it means 'If I Rememebr Correctly'
