Avon saftey wheels?

The Avon safety wheels were an aftermarket alloy of late '60s vintage. Pretty rare, I've only seen a couple of P6s wearing them. The 'safety' feature was a metal band the was fitted inside the rim after the tyre was fitted but before it was seated. Filling the valley and supposedly preventing the tyre from coming off in the event of a blowout. Though I'm pretty sure they work just fine without the band fitted.
I think they may have been a factory option on some Bristols and the Vauxhall Firenza droop snoot used a different style of Avon safety wheel.
Here's a P6:

The above car was sold by someone (a trader) I know a while back.
