BBP Gets a makeover..

Having got my own car back on the road what with an engine transplant and all last month im now full
steam ahead with the bodywork.

BBP lacks paint and metal in the usual areas. Paint has fell off the boot. All doors, especially the rears are
crusty and each panel has some small annoying scabs and dents. To sum up..it needed doing.

I've saved all the panels from my scrapper so that i can simply prep and paint those, then have a swapping
over session, rather than have my car off the road for a length of time.

Today was stage one. Begin rubbing down every panel. Met by my first challenge..whoever painted the
car before must have done it in the rain, as sadly, every single panel has minute bubbles which have needed
flattening back to remove any moisture. Its almost as if they've been sat in primer, allowed to get damp then
painted over. Either way..it's been a challenge.

Also, one of the wings had rusted out from the inside due to a poor repair panels some eons ago..and the bottom
of the rear passenger door had crumbled to dust. So some fabrication of sorts was needed....

Nice work - you have a great place to work there!

Rich

Thanks!. I'm lucky enough that my best mate works for a independent Land rover garage stuck in the outskirts
of no-where and off the radar. His boss is fully accustomed to me turning up with my P6 as it's spent the last
few months being brought in and out for various jobs including swapping the engine over!.

If you have minute bubbles, pin pricks all over that can be solvent popping and the best cure is back to bare metal.
Nitromors is quick and relatively easy, had to do all 16 collected panels for mine.

Some more progress has been made over the last 48 hours. A couple of 12 hour days and a feck of a lot
of work later, my new panels are in paint and waiting to be fit :) . Heres a few pics..

That's all for today. Boot is now in primer on the car, and ive also re-done the bonnet.
Tomorrow will be spent finishing off, and hopefully will be back together by the end of
the day.

Permission to be knackered :D

Don't you just hate these people with the skill and energy to achieve instant and quality restorations! Congrats on the state of the metal underneath - that's a real bonus! I think Stina needs to buy you an ice cream and a deckchair on the prom after all that effort!

More from today...

Boot getting some paint..was the worse part on the car before..

Partially re-assembled while we have a cuppa..

All done..some sweat & tears later...

Few bits to go back together yet, such as door mirrors and interior. Other than that, jobs a good'n

Paint will need some mopping, and there's quite a bit of over-spray. Otherwise a complete
success. Not bad for a weeks work and under a budget of just paint, materials and hard
graft.
:D

Think that looks nice with the sills white whereas I was voting for black on the red one the other week
Shows what can be achieved without spending mega money on the car
