Best manifold gasket?

Guten Tag zusammen!

I GOT to order parts with Geoff from WinsLtd VERY SOON, so this is just a quick inquiry before I do so:

- Are there different quality manifold gaskets?
- How to recognize them?
- Is the dearest one the best one?
- Are there differences to the two rubber seals that go under the manifold gasket?

Grateful for every hint!!
Have a very good sunday!

stefan
(I am REALLY glad I took off the manifold, by the way, although one screw just lost its head :!:
On taking the flange to the heater tube off the manifold the lower of the two screws just - well it did not even shear, it crumbled  !
Accordingly, the coolant pipe that runs under the mainfold is VERY badly rusted, and above flange has holes - visible only after sandblasting the part - that must have been the reason for a VERY slow loss of coolant  ...)

Hi Stefan,

When it comes to Rover engine parts, there are different categories. Genuine Land Rover, Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM), Aftermarket Cat 1, Aftermarket Cat 2, Cat3 etc. The ones to stick with are Genuine or OEM. You can source these parts from, as an example Rimmer Bros or V8 tuner, being just two to choose from.

The price is the guide, Genuine are the most expensive, then OEM and so on all the way down.

I have been reading this again and again whilst tracing down the correct gasket.

Because it makes me wonder:
- How do above categories develope?
- Why do people or companies produce items that are known - or suspected - to be of lesser quality?
- Why do they not try and make bigger profits by asking what Genuine or OEM parts cost?
- Why and how do they survive in a market as big as "The Rover V8"-parts-place?

Hi Stefan,

The consumer always wants when possible more than one option, as not everyone will be in a monetary position to be able to purchase Genuine or OEM. Cheaper products tend to enjoy improved sales because of their price point, and when it breaks or wears out, the consumer will purchase a replacement.

Ron.
