As Rich (rockdemon) mentioned, there are a number of forum members who apart from being P6 owners are also avid cyclists, so why not post up some pics of your favourite bike or bikes and we can all enjoy... :D

These are my bikes....

The one closest to the wall is a circa 1985 model Bianchi Super Leggera. It still carries some original components from that time, although I fitted Campagnolo Record dual pivot calipers in 2003 and 2005 issue aluminium alloy 39/53 Record chainset. I am runing a 12-18 Suntour Winner cluster, so 14 gears in total. The rims are Mavic GP4 shod with Vittoria tubulars. The second bike is a 2005 Bianchi EV3 with full Campagnolo Record, including carbon chainset. The cassette is a 12-23 although I usually run an 11-21, so 20 gears in total. Being the ride I use mostly for training, the tyres are Michelin Krylion clinchers.

My dominant racing bike is a 2007 Bianchi FG Lite which also runs Campagnolo Record components, Campagnolo Eurus tubular wheels running handmade Veloflex Carbon tubulars. It is the lightest of the three with a total mass of just 7kg. The frame a clear coated bare metal finish, the same as ridden by Danilo Di Luca when he was riding for Italian Professional team Liquigas. I must say I do love the new 11 speed Super Record,..so just a matter of time... :D

wow nice collection! Makes my bike look very dirty... All the rubbish on english roads i think! (that and i never get round to washing it:))

photos later:)

There's a definite Italian theme to your collection there Ron. I'm a recent convert to Campagnolo, I have Centaur 10 speed on my Sworks Tarmac and I love it.

Actually, I'm a recent convert to road cycling in general having been mountain biking for 20 years.

I currently have a 1960 Flying Scot which I have just got back from Bob Jackson who did some work for me.

I am having trouble with my photo hosting site just now or would post a photo.

I also sold in January my 1967 scot which was nice and original. Not in the same league as you modern kit though.

Hi,

I never could get comfortable on the “proper” road bike so I built myself a hybrid thing. When first built it had mountain bike gears but later it got a road triple ring at the front, gives you much taller gearing. I used to be able to keep up with most of my local clubs road riders on it, chasing for “30’s” etc… but these days it pretty much stays in the middle ring and I potter along, maybe should fit the mountain bike gears again.

Tim

Hello Paul,

Yes indeed I do in the main like Italian frames and components. I put around 12,000 miles (20,000km) on my EV3 every year, and so far it has proven to be very reliable.

Hello Tim,

That's a snazzy bike that you have there.. :) Can I ask,..what size is your smallest chainring? Is that a 9 speed cassette?

Ron.

I haven't actively ridden since I left school and got a car but I did buy some bikes with the intention of restoring them. However, I never seemed to find the time and so I sold them about 5 years ago.

Hello KR,

Wow classic bikes.. :)

The blue one is the classic Chopper from the 1970s, is the purple one also a Chopper? They have 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub gears don't they?

Ron.

I think as Rover owners, being dyed in the wool traditionalists we should keep up the theme of wood and leather.

They are both Choppers. The purple one was a later model and had been 'repainted' by an enthusiastic child but was actually in pretty good nick. I think you're right about the gears too. Three speed with a console mounted shifter. (or nutcracker )

Blimey, i haven't seen one of these for ages! A friend of mine had one in the late seventies and i do remember the "gearbox" too.

I agree about the "nutcracker".

Here's my bike - looking very grubby!

It's a focus Variado expert - shimano Ultegra chainset, FSA bottom bracket, ITM carbon handlebars and seatpost. Has new wheels on since the accident ( paid for on her insurance ) with shimano 105 hubs and mavic rim made by the local bike shop...

Well used through the winter and in need of a good clean...

Rich.

Since this topic is in the lounge and doesn't have anything much to do with classic Rovers, I'm sure the moderators will allow me to show you the website I designed and maintain for my friend's classic racing bicycle shop. Check out

I ride a 2003 model Look KG386 with carbon tubes and aluminium lugs and BB shell, with a mix of Centaur, Chorus and Record components. My 'pub bike' is a Chesini from the late '70s, with a mix of Campagnolo, Gipiemme, Modolo, Cinelli and FIR components.

When you're out in your P6 please remember to allow cyclists plenty of room when passing!

Hello Rich,

How long have you had the Focus? Does it have an aluminium steerer or carbon? Are they 170mm cranks? A well used bike in an excellent result... :D

Ron.

Hello Mr Task,

Your friend's classic bike shop is really excellent... :D

I like the sound of your bikes too,...would love to see some pics if you have some and you would like to post them. Modolo used to make some really nice brake sets. I had a set of their professional brakes in black on my first road bike from 1981. It was a custom made frame, and I was considering a Gipiemme chainset, but ended up going with an SR Royal instead.

Ron.

I've had the focus for about 3 years now... I got it when they first became available and were much cheaper than other brands for the same spec. They've pushed specs down and prices up more recently.... Could be a result of the weak pound...

It's still on the original carbon forks and aluminium steerer... ( The accident didnt touch them...)

Great site :D I recognise that man from the TDF mountains  Real shoes with cleats for toe clips too I see 8)

I sold off my stuff a few years back when my favourite 531 roadbike with Campag super record kit and mavic GP4 rims was stolen along with an Aero framed Mercier which I only ever saw one of. Sold my Low Profile TT bike (24" Front wheel) on E-Bay which cost plenty when I built it, radial aero spokes, Durex rims etc got £80  Went to a guy who had a collection of old race bikes and kit and he was well impressed when I handed it over
Swapped my Track bike for a good spray gun, had Assos aero rims all tied and soldered spokes. Wish I hadn't now
I still have my old kit and pics to look at and remember those days :)
I rode the Lo Pro up the road and back quickly, as the original tubs were perished and leaking. Put it in the gear I 'Used to' be able to push for hours on end, and promptly came back to laughter from my son and Mrs as they looked on at my near state of collapse

it does look like a great shop... Unfortunately i must admit as a relative newcomer to cycling i know very little of all this kit...
