bleeding rear brake

I was bleeding the rearbrake, my daughter in the car and i under the car.
In the beginning i had no oil but after a time i have oil out the calliper but the pressure behind it is not so strong as at the frontside callipers.
Is this normal? or must i go on with bleeding so the liquid came out with the same pressure at the frontside?
gr.Hans

The amount of brake fluid coming out per foot peddle movement should be the same.

However it is difficult to open the rear bleed nipple, so if it isn't fully open then the fluid coming out will be less ( as the peddle movement could be moving the other brakes )

I slacken off the nipple with a spanner, then fit the bleed tube and with fingers twist the tube to open & close the valve ( no spanner fitted ) - you will get a better release of fluid that way. when finished use a spanner to tighten the nipple.

Thanks John ,i tried tommorow to open and close with hands, when finished i use a spanner, good idia.

Hans, if you have large hands (as I have) and have difficulty in passing your fingers through the diff mounting plate, a cut down spanner can be of considerable help in tightening the nipple.

yes i understand, but i have an short one the car is jacked up and on pedestals with wood so i have place to do the job.
Now the oil was coming out a little. But when i pushes with my foot on the pedal the firs time i have a long distance with the pedal, the second time very short i think it must be always very short, or must the motor running? i did it without running the motor after bleeding.

Hi, another trick to remove any lack of fluid movement is to clamp off the front
flexibles. So that all fluid goes to the back. This works for the fronts as well. If
you clamp all hoses and just release the one you are bleeding and then when you
are finished just release one at a time, checking the pedal each time, any 'softness'
can be isolated to the appropiate corner.

Once you have most of the air out of a brake system, it is no longer necessary to pump the brake pedal. Provided that the level in the reservoir is higher than the bleed point, gravity will do the trick. Rather slow for a fill from empty situation as Hans has, but entirely adequate if simply bleeding the rear brakes after having the calipers off. Simply let the fluid rum until there are no longer any bubbles and then tighten the bleed nipple. The more conventional pedal pumping method is taught to all mechanics as they are in a time is money situation and the method then simply cascades down to us amatears.

Hi,just finished with bleeding it was not a very hard job , i saw when you(my daughter) put the brake pedal very slowly it was gone much better, also it was a good tip to do it with hand and when finished torq it with a key.
Thanks for the tips all. Hans

Chris . As you say you can let the fluid Rum , as it's Christmas week you can get away with this :D
Normally i wouldn't recommend mixing Rum and brake fluid
Happy new year :D

I know a bloke who drinks brake fluid all the time, loads of it. Personally I think he's addicted to it, but he reckons he can stop whenever he wants......

Thought i had loads of brake jokes Harvey but that one stopped me in my tracks
Happy new year  :D
