Blue switches??????

Hi again all,

I have just manged to pick up another donor car ('71/72 V8, no motor) as a donor car for Winston. I didn't really need it but the panels are dead straight and it has a red interior, one of my preferred colours. And you can never have enough spares. The price was reasonable and free delivery was thrown in (100kms away).

I started to strip the interior today and was surprised to notice that the interior light switch and the headlight switch are blue in colour. I have never seen blue switches, only green.

Has anyone seen blue switches before or have I stumbled on a rarity :?: :?:

Regards RT.

I know that there are at least two shades of green for the knobs as I have a complete set of each and they are quite distinct. I have never seen blue ones though.. Be great if you could take some pics RT..

Yes. The headlamp and wiper knobs in mine are a nice dark greeney-blue, but the interior light switch is more of a grass green. I'd like them all in the greeney-blue really, but can't tell which is which when searching on ebay.

Is the inside of the instrument binnacle sprayed blue as well? That would give a blue backlit effect on the dials. Very 90s, but it might work!

That's certainly one way to collect spares. Wish I had the room to keep a whole spares car. I've never seen blue switches myself and all the spares I have are a bright (ish) green. Pics are always good as others have said :D .

I have seen a car with the blue switches you mention, I didn't really take much more notice of it apart from the fact that Rover/Lucas probably changed the composition of the injection plastic they used for some production related reason, or that someone else may have made them under licence. IIRC the car I saw them on was a V8 but I can't really remember much more than that.

Greetings fellow Roverites,

Pics as requested. Sorry for delay, was working all night last night.
I hope that the pice show the colour difference properly as it was difficult to get the light showing through.

Green one on the right for comparison.

Well they are certainly blue...never seen that before. Is the car that contained them RT a private import from the U.K or a factory import from New Zealand? The latter will have an additional identification plate in the engine bay stamped with "HP" along with some digits.

may have been from the moulders , changing from one product to another , maybe natural material masterbatched for colour, may have run some off in the wrong colour instead of purging the barrel, rich

I do remember seeing some before, which must have been customers of my Dads. Can't explain them though :|

I think these are the types that I have! I would have described them as 'dark green', but looking at them again, they are very similar to that picture. I was expecting you to post a picture of something of a lightening blue shade, so I was surprised to see something like mine.

How rare are they? As one knob is a definite green and I would quite like the set. Not the highest thing on my list though!!

hi all,
they have been on all of my NADA cars i have imported from the states. so as they were built from 68 - 70 i would say rover started out with blue ones, then when we had the series two come out over here, went on to the common green ones we all know.
