Bonnet Gap

My 3500S has some unknown history regarding the colour..it was definitely Tobacco Leaf originally but has been resprayed in the past to a different shade (which I prefer!). The bonnet however either missed out on the respray or, more likely, is not original.

To get to the point, the side gaps at the front are OK but increase rearwards, and become huge near the screen!

Pics here...and you can see the rear edge of the bonnet is high in relation to the doors.

Is there any adjustment at the hinges to cater for this?

Cheers,

Stan

Hi Stan.
The only adjustment on the hinges is for sideways and back to front movement, unless you fit some form of spacer in between the hinge and bonnet or hinge and base unit!.
But this would make it higher!,, unless there are already some in there making it too high!
I would suspect the gap can be fixed by adjusting the doors and wings up a little.
As the wings and doors tend to rust, get dented easily,I suspect they have been replaced and the bonnet is original,as is the front screen panel that is the same color as the bonnet in your pics.
Its an easy job to raise the doors by screwing the hinge mounting bolts up!!
Loosen the bottom one off and screw up the top one till the gap has lessened then retighten, pinch up the lower one,you may have to reset the lock striker plates.
You may need to do the same with the wings!!
Its all trial and error,a tedious fettling type of job that can really get frustrating!!
Good fiddling!!

Thanks Dave,

I can't see any packing under the bonnet hinges, but neither any way of lowering them so your reply makes perfect sense..it's all relative after all! After a quick look, my first concern would be whether the door would foul in the frame, also there's the rear door line to consider...oh well! I'll have a play when I get more time.

Cheers,

Stan

Hi Stan.
The door glass framework has some up and down adjustment in the door body, and you are right! once you adjust the door, then the back door, then the back wing, then the boot, then the other wing, other doors!! you can go on chasing the adjustment all round the car and still it wont be right!
It can be enough to drive a classic car nutter, :x Stark raving mad if he isnt already!!
See the other posting from mrtask for starting from scratch!!!
