Did you manage to open then boot?

They can be tricky.

Does the key turn fully both ways? Can you hear a click?

I would spray it via the key hole with wd40, the lock pins and parts can stick. Spray it and leave it to soak, the spray it again and been a bit rough. Turn the key both ways whilst pushing the lock in and out.

If it is just stuck that might help. Other wise it could be a problem. Is there much stuff in your boot? Worse case you could cut an access hole in the floor and either unscrew the latch or pop it open without damaging the bootlid.

Very odd. I'd be inclined to drill out the cylinder, which shouldn't be too hard as they are pot metal. Of course than means another lock and different key unless you get the replacement cylinder re-keyed.

Drilling would wreck the lock so a repalcement would be needed.

Also the lock is only held in place with a clip at the back and the locating slots. It is quite possible that the lock could or try to rotate against the lid. Particularly when drilling the stainless steel key slot.

Drills can also slip and damage the car or the flesh.

With the boot being Alu you could may end up with a light dent which is also why I didnt recommend a large flat screw driver forced in.

How fully the wd40 and shuggling will work though.

I have had this problem before. Do you have stuff in your boot which could be resting back on it. Try driving down a hill and slam on the brakes to move anything in there forward. My Rover boot is normally full of tools, and spare parts to enable me to keep it running!

Then what always worked for me was to stab with my thumb, and at the moment that the plunger reaches all the way forward lift up on the boot. Normally this would get it after a dozen or so tries.

Then one you get it open reposition the catch on the base unit. I cannot remember which way I moved it, but after I moved it a little bit I never had this problem again.
