Borg Warner T5 conversion

Hi Guys,
I'm about to start converting my auto P6B to manual, has anyone done the BW T5 conversion before?
Also, to my fellow Australian members, does anyone have a V8 manual pedal box and clutch master cylinder assembly for sale?

Cheers

Not aware of any in the UK. Theoretically if you get a tvr box and bell housing it should all go together with mounts being the main area of concern?

I don't know of any rover fitted with a T5 but RPI and V8tuner sell the T5 and the T5 is also used in many V8 conversion in MGB's

Here in Australia, a conversion kit is readily available, the issue is trying to find a pedal box, almost non existent.
I might end up having to install a floor custom mount pedal kit incorporating a cable accelerator and dual brake lines.

Funny, I had the same problem in SA with pedals when I went to LT77 from BW35. I ended up
with a LHD pedal box and an oxy-acetylene torch to re-hand the pedals.

An update to my T5 conversion....
Exhaust is heat wrapped in Titanium Heat wrap in an attempt to keep exhaust temps down.

The dual reservoir I got from car builder solutions, couldn't find one in Australia that would fit.

4 Cylinder pedal installed, courtesy of fellow member "roverdriver" thanks again Dane, rods not yet connect to the master cylinders so they look slight high, hopefully have them positioned to the correct height this week.

Clutch mater cylinder positioned, using a land Rover 2A, as the 3500s is not available in Australia, might have to swap it out later if it is not suitable.

Lastly the master cylinders heat shield, this is where the fun starts, heat soak from the exhaust is of a concern.
I will heat wrap the master cylinders when the job is completed. I've used an exhaust heat panel and formed it to box in the master cylinders, it will eventually form a 3 layer approach:
1) heat wrapped exhaust
2) Heat panel
3) Heat wrapped master cylinders.

So far so good, most of the engine bay work is done, time to remove the BW35... :)

I'd be interested to know how you get on with yours - mine has been converted in the same way and heat soak is proving to be a problem, even with a lot of heat shielding. However, that problem may be the slave cylinder - the exhaust is very close.

Next time mine starts suffering from the spongy, ineffective, pedal, I'm going to have a good feel round the clutch master cylinder to see just how hot it feels. If it's not that hot, then the slave cylinder must be the cause, I don't quite know how I'm going to get round that one, if that is the problem, though!

Does anyone know why the single reservoir is used for both systems and if it's possible to change it? I'd be tempted to use DOT5 fluid in the clutch, to help with the heat resistance, but I don't think I want to use it in the braking system. If I was to go down that route, I'd want to fit a smaller reservoir just for the clutch.

I chose the single reservoir as I found space to be the limiting factor, I wanted a second reservoir for the clutch but could not find a suitable place to mount it, the air filter arms hit the reservoir.

Re: Supra 5 speed

Just an update... the conversion to a 5 speed has changed from a Borg Warner to a Supra 5 speed.

so where did you get the T5 style bellhousing and I assume you're using a dellow bellhousing for the W5X gearbox?

I didn't end up buying the T5 bellhousing, I got the supra bellhosing instead from Dellow.

The P76 used a BW T4 on their 4 speed cars. I can check one of my auto bell housings against my P76 block but I'm pretty certain they have the same face as the 3500. They also went into Leyland Terrier trucks. I've yet to meet someone that has had more than a couple of years out of a supra box.
