Bought a New Toy at Stoneleigh

Hi All,

I'm a bit late posting, but holidays etc have been a distraction (ah sunshine, heat - not like here!!)

Anyway - I got a sort of "living inheritance" from my Aunt to "spend it while she's still alive". So I bought a pair of these from CJAutos at Stoneleigh. Bl**dy hell they were heavy, and had to go across the back seat in vanessa - came in a box the size of a coffin!!

A bit pricey but absolutely superb!

New Ramps

Great clearance - only 5 inches high to drive on, then raise up to 16 inches high to the bottom of the wheel. Safe too with a 2Ton SWL.

You can lower the ramps independently - which means you can put one side under an axle stand.

You can detach the hoses from the foot pump and move the hoses out of the way.

And with the extra long hoses that I bought extra, you can raise one side of the car instead of front/rear.

I had an issue with one of the rams leaking, but new hydraulic seals were sent out next day, and the Boss (Colin) talked me through how to change them (dead easy). Apparently he'd changed all his seals on his stock due to some bad ones, but as I bought a set out of his van at Stoneleigh, it had been missed. A very good service.

Dead pleased!

Nice one. Saw those in the back of your car as we were leaving and it's agood job you didn't have any passengers.

By the way, is that petrol powered video camera you have? :)

they look pretty bloody impressive , you will have to swap legs or over a restoration you will have 1 massive leg!rich

Cheers Guys!

Ha ha - petrol powered! I was giving Tina some time idling to keep the oil flowing!

Rich - No, it takes no effort to raise the car, all done by the hydraulics. You could pump the car up with your hands if you want (but that is a little bit hard). Even me, who hasn't done a jot of real excersise in decades can pump it up without breaking out into a sweat!

I wanted it because to get the car up in the air do do any work involved a sciscor jack to lift the car up enough to get the trolley jack underneath to jack her up to get axle stands underneath. Well, that's certainly true for the TR with her low ground clearance. For Vanessa (P6), not too bad at the front with the front cross member, but jacking up the rear is always a pain. Not any more!

Cheers,

Bri.

Very impressive those. I might be tempted to splash out some time. Do they have a geometric lock as well as a hydraulic lock to prevent them collapsing or should they be used with some other form of support?

Dave

Hi Dave,

there is a big metal collar round the top of the hydraulic arm - here is a pic of the ramps fully extended without the lock in place

And here is another one of the locking arm 'swung over' so that it locks into the big metal collar

So ... no you don't need any further support.

Here is a pic that shows how low they are to drive up onto - no more ramps running away from you as you drive on

and fully extended

2 Pairs would be good, you could also get one of the air powered hydraulic pumps, so no pumping. I've seen them in practical classics today £400 a pair is a hefty investment. At £800 for 2 pairs you're starting to get into 2nd hand 2/4 post ramp money (assuming you've got the space)
