Brake Access

I have been searching the Forum, to see if there is any mention of cutting an aperture in the floor to gain access to the rear discs/calipers, but there is not a mention of it, does this mean that it hasn't been done, and if not Why? Just looking at it, I don't see why not, OK, I'm waiting to be " Shot down in flames now " with all the reasons why it hasn't been mentioned!!!

Because there is absolutely no need. Having said that you could always be the first to try...........

You could cut a hole in there if you were to first remove the fuel tank and then climb in. Basically its a no no

Hi Julian,

Just make sure you've got plenty of space - a pit or good high ramps / stands - & take your time. Then you'll be fine.

I've worked on rear brakes many times without special tools & even managed without any bad language, so it must be possible!

Check out my blog. Pictures of me doing my rear pads. I removed the whole rear plate as I was also doing the pipes, some leave it one. But as it's only three more bolts I took it off to give more room. With the diff down there is plenty of room. I've done a lot of cars with rear drums and pads on the wheel hubs and I think that the P6 inboard brakes are no harder and compared to some French cars, easier! :0) They just look hard.

it has actually been done, someone has cut a hole in the boot floor to do brakes before, but to be honest, theres no need really

As said above, if you're really still stuck for space, you could unbolt the rear of the diff and drop it down a little, taking care not to strain the brake pipes, and as said before, get the car high up on ramps to give yourself as much space as possible.
