I use DOT 4 Mintex in all my vehicles now including the P6, refilled with this when I resealed all the brakes a few years ago,
I change it every couple of years too.

Use DOT4 or DOT 5.1 but DO NOT USE DOT5 which is silicone based.
... unless it has already got silicone brake fluid in it, in which case DO USE DOT5!
(If it has, it will probably look purple.)

With the P6 having a tendency to leak brake fluid into their servo's I certainly would not use Dot 5. I have seen cases on other classics where the brake fluid is sucked out of a servo via the inlet manifold and ended up destroying the engine rapidly, Dot 5 + extreme heat = Silica sand = wrecked motor = overdraft

I don't think we need to get into the pros and cons of using silicone fluid, we'd have as much chance of reaching agreement in a discussion about the existence of a higher being. I merely maintain out that if the system already contains DOT5, it would be daft to top it up with anything else.

Personally I think the pro's and con's is the fundamental question... Of course you shouldn't mix, but then it shouldn't be in there in the first place. Maybe it will save someone somewhere some money.. Just a gesture from professional experience

Sure, but it's one that's been done to death a hundred times before yet has never been resolved. Simply asserting that it doesn't work adds nothing to the discussion when as many people will insist that they've used it for years with no problems.
