Brake Lockup on P6B

Hi Guys,

I have just discovered this forum and hopefully someone can help solve my problem. I have just replaced my rear springs and shock absorbers and was just undergoing a test run when I braked and had a total brake lock-up. Bit dicey being in the middle of the road and not able to go anywhere! But managed to get towed off to the side by a friendly Disco with a chain. Anyway I was able to free the brakes by opening one of the bleed nipples on a front caliper but the problem returned when I braked again. The problem seems to be in either the master cylinder or the servo. Does anyone have any (helpful) suggestions as to where I should start? I have removed the servo and am about to pull it apart (with the help from the Repair Manual). If that all looks OK (should I look for anything in particular - apart from the bleedin' obvious) I'll do the same with the master cylinder and get a service kit to replace the seals etc.

Thanks in advance,

hi ray,
firstly a nice looking car and wheels. the servo is the likely culprit. underneath the plastic vacuum unit there is a small piston that is probably getting stuck and not returning which will cause lock on, on the brakes or even the vacuum pipe to the servo could be collapsing internally causing the same thing.
