just bought my first p6 yesterday.....72 3500 with 3500s running gear (converted to manual too)

car is great...lovely noise..only problem is the brakes!

car has stood for about 6 months and was fine when it was last driven.Drove car yesterday, noticed there was very little brakes, they just managed to stop the car when it was going walking pace with the pedal to the floor...checked fluid reservoir-empty....filled it up and the seller bled the pipe between the reservoir and the servo...brakes come back now if you pump them

any ideas?

thanx

if the brakes are only working when pumped then there must be air in the system somewhere..but it may also be a isea to check the master cylinder is ok and not leaking.and check all the pipes and calipers especially the rear calipers for any leaks.

Another place to check for the missing fluid is inside the servo, and on a manual car check the clutch master and slave as well cos they take fluid from the same reservoir.Bleed the whole system and see where the leaks are afterwards.

If you are really unlucky , you might find all your fluid has leaked into the metal covers on the rear calipers

They ALWAYS leak into there! But it keeps the trade in work, I always had my long thin flat bladed screwdriver on hand to check! I didn't mention it because I thought everyone knew, but there's always the exceptions to prove the rule. I used to really enjoy doing those, trouble is now most of the pston bores are so badly pitted. Anyone know anywhere to get them re sleeved?
