Bruiser Breathes Easier.

I've just got a pair of New 2" SU pancake filters from ebay. I actually got three for £43.50 inc p&p which was a bit of a bargain as they're £45 each from Burlen + p&p.

Robbed a pipe union from an old Ford carb & manifold I've got laying around for the engine breather pipe & fitted it to the rear filter cover.

Fitting them with the long plate connecting the carbs was awkward so I asked Harvey if I could do away with the spring mount system as I was reducing the weight of the assembly by doing away with the original filter. He said it might make the engine a bit harsher but as Bruiser's not really as smooth as Rover intended now we agreed that I might as well try it.

The only problem that Harvey could see was that the large 'O' rings at the manifold might wear quicker but as he said, it probably won't happen. I was getting a rattling from the assembly with the old filter in place that I couldn't pin down. This has now disappeared.
I also had to buy a pair of jets for the HD8's on Bruiser due to a leaky diaphram recently and trying to get the screws out of the jet housings I managed to break one of the choke lever shafts at the lever end (which you may not be able to see).

The shaft only comes with the jet housing at £80. Fortunately I got a spare carb with our 110 which also has an HD8. It's a different arrangment having the lever & cam the other way round, so I couldn't just swap the housing complete but had to remove the shaft, reverse the cam & reassemble it in the jet housing. The P4 lever is different as is the lever fixing, it's better having a nut instead of a pin which was the cause of the break in the first place.

As you can (maybe) see it faces the wrong way but it makes no difference & after I shortened the connecting rod between the levers it works perfectly. Especially as I've actually connected it to a cable now. This isn't the original engine & it wasn't connected before.
