bung?

hi can someone shed some light on if and why there looks to be bung made of steel at the bottom of the b pillar?
Its steel cause its rusty but not sure I can remove and replace them.
Whats its purpose ?

Either production holes for the assembly process or to allow paint to drain out post submersion.

There are a lot of these on the P6.

thanks I might remove them and spray some rust preventive inside
Being rusty they need to come out
