ive got a 1969 series 1 v8 and have a problem with my gearbox
it goes into reverse but has no forward gears just a slight wearing noise.
a mechanic friend of mine had a listen to it and assured me it could be the drive bands are worn.
I take it this is a full rebuild.
if I go down this route can anyone recommend a good company (im based in Northampton)
or does anyone have a good secondhand bw35 for sale.
regards
paul

Loss of forward drive in most cases will be a front clutch failure. The box needs to be removed to fix that so as you suspect while it's out it's best to overhaul it at the same time, rather than just fixing the one fault. You could take a chance and just reseal the clutch drums and replace the plates as necessary, inspect the bands, and reseal the servos, and you'd probably be OK though.

The only thing I would ask is have you tried pulling away in "2" or "1" (or D2 or D1 if appropriate)?
