Bw 65/66 question.

Hi gang,
So for my project I have a BW65 and a BW66 in the parts bin. I'm using the 66 as I found a crack in the case of the 65 (D'oh!). Question is, are the torque converters interchangeable? 65 came with a brand new one.....I have another that I think came with the 66 but it's been so long I'm not sure. Also - any ide where I'd get the breather (?) that plugs in on the opposite side of the box to the kick-down cable? I just have the hole to put it in.....
Cheers,
Rob.

Additional question, apart from changing a leaking input seal and replacing filter/pan gasket, is there anything else I should do before installation? I know it's a 50 year old box and might not be perfect, but I just want to get it in and moving for now.

The BW65 and 66 converters are different due to the input shaft being a larger diameter on the 66. You can make it work but it will involve a certain amount of box dismantling and parts interchanging.
If you don't mind the labour involved in removing they box again I'd say fit it and try it.
A breather fitting can be sourced from any BW65/66, maybe your other box has one.

Thanks Harvey, I appreciate your advice. I have a lead on a new breather now - I tried removing the one from the 65 and it kinda disintegrated.....Happy to stick with all 66 bits as it's a custom installation anyway.

So, I have a 65 sitting next to a 66 on the bench. Apart from the ID plate they appear exactly the same externally. Input shafts both measure the same... off to count the splines but I suspect they'll be the same too.....
I wonder if the Rv8 '66 were made with the same input shafts as 65's for compatibility? Maybe the 66 was Rover-adapted?.... I don't know.

Ok so something must have been swapped. Both the 65 and 66 I have have the same diameter input shafts as a 35 I have laying around. They also have the same number of splines so I test fit the '65 converter and it fits....I wonder if the 66 was changed back in the day to suit a Rover?

Rover 66 boxes didn't have the deep sump either, so it doesn't surprise me that they didn't have the larger input shaft. I'm not sure if they had the adjustable kickdown cam bracket, but so far they would appear to be a 66 box in name only.

is that on the outside of the box, black in colour? If so, that's the only difference between the two boxes I have.
