Can this be repaired?

If you can get their I think you should, it's good to show the progress you have made and also get bits of input from others

hi will,
turning up in a car is the main thing, not what it looks like. the first couple of years with my white 3500 auto, it looked dog rough, i felt like i shoudn't be there as all the cars were better than mine. but it was on the road and i enjoyed driving it. i then went the other way with my red NADA copy and was frightened to use it. they are there for driving and if i have not emigrated by then, i will be at beamish with my white NADA again, in the same state it was in last year, tired paint and shot interior, but hopefully with a 4 speed auto in her.

Quite agree it doesn't matter as long as you enjoy it. That's what counts it don't need to be a trophy winner its about getting pleasure from your hobby be it driving, fixing, polishing or restoring, usually all of them :D .
I use mine daily and she gets a clean and a quick polish before shows, as with most dailys she's work in progress ( I'm not keen on the term rolling resto ) makes her sound like a wreck

Yeah, I'll more than likely be at Beamish with the car. After all it's a great show plus it's just down the road from me. I'm just being overly sensitive about the car after someone posted a photo and comment about it on another forum last year saying "Rover V8 with crap paint"!..I know it's crap! because I painted it with a roller! I just don't need reminding about it?!

I would have answered that with let's have a look at your pride and joy. It's the easiest thing in the world to find fault with anything, bring a concourse in and I could find something I don't like. Concentrate on all the things that were not so good and YOU have sorted, that's what it's about. I like this forum because whenever I have done something without fail nobody is knocking you, ok not everyone likes it as people have different tastes but in that case it's " not bad I would have done " then it's their suggestion. You have done alot to the car, saved a P6 from the scrappy and it's looking better each week. Take no notice of the knockers ( unless they are Pamela Andersons) enjoy the car as you do, hope to see you at Beamish.

Yes Mick, now there's some knockers I've taken plenty of notice of over the years! :D

I haven't booked a place yet as I don't want to turn up in a tatty car again!

I like to see all types and condition of cars, especially as we have followed its progress on here and to be able to see the results in the flesh.

I didn't think I would like green carpets, but they do go very well. Look forward to seeing the car.

I fitted the wolfrace slots about a fortnight ago. I've only just taken a photo of them today so thought I may as well add it. The tyres I had fitted were 195/14s and they rubbed on the inner D post so a bit of fettling was in order! . I used the technique Chris York has described previously (scissor-jacking) and it did the job well! :D
(the photos aren't too clear but I used my phone)

Oh, and here's a picture of a little 'false nose' I made to fit the hole in the centre of the series 1 grille

I'm liking the look Will, Just wondering if there's a rubber type seal that would fit along the bonnet edge to give a nice finished edge along the top of the grill (basically hide the screws and small gap) like the little snout

Will, you should be able to adjust the front edge of the bonnet to sit lower which will mostly cover the screws at the top of the grill.

Good thinking in the centre section where the badge would have been.

How do you do that Paul? I agree it would look better if the bonnet sat lower at the front to hide those screws.

Concerning the centre section. I do quite like the bonnet badge so needed something to replace the grille badge. I'm not keen on the 'double badge' idea, although I'm sure some people are happy with it. I've since painted the thicker sections where they meet in the centre of the grille (with black paint between the 'ribs'). Now the 'nose' stands out a little bit more and gives a definite 'v' shape :D .

I could be telling you what you already know  but the series 1 bonnet is thicker at the front and on the V8 has the alloy strip hanging down which covers the top of the grill even further.
Can't see how you'll get that one to sit as low as you'd like with the wing edges being in charge, if you get my drift :)
Unless I've totally got the wrong end of the Rover stick :|

To be honest, I wasn't aware of that. I've never been up close to a series 1 bonnet or had one to compare. I know about the alloy strips though. Mine already sits on the front wing edges so I understand what you're saying there. It looks worse on that photo because it was taken on my Dads drive with the car pointing uphill. When it's level it doesn't show the screws so much. It would still be nice to obscure them somehow though?

I didn't know that the screws were lower on the series 1 grill, so if your bonnet is already resting on the wings you won't be able to wind the catch and feet in any further to lower the front edge.
