hi all,
just started looking at car insurance and wondered who you insure with / premiums etc. i have rang adrian flux who will insure a LHD NADA agreed value of £15k for £200.75 + £10.00 for the agreed valuation fees, that i asked about as obviously the club will do the valuation, but they still want £10.00 for that, which i send the form with pictures and they charge £10.00 for filing it. that is the only part of the insurance i don't agree with. i get first refusal if it is written off.

for a 15k car that sounds a good deal, mine is with Lancaster was about £100 (can't remember the exact price) fully comp.

Try Footman James classic multicar policy, got all 4 of mine, total agreed value about £23k for about £175 fully comp, EU breakdown, unlimited miles,no need to be garaged, named driver, negotiable salvage rights.

The SD1 Vitesse is £72 agreed at £2.5k with no fee for the valuation. That is with Peter S Taylor who are very nice to deal with.

I moved from Footman James this year as their premium had increased enough for me to shop around - and I was fed up with being left on hold listening to Vivaldi every time I tried to phone them.
Now I'm with RH who were cheaper, just as efficient, and answer the phone right away.

My insurance is £924 TPFT on limited miles with me as the owner/driver, and my parents as named drivers, which is probably more than most people pay to insure a 2000SC auto. That's with Footman James, nobody else would touch a 2000SC with me as main driver.

I don't know what they are like nowadays but back in the UK before we emigrated I always had my TVR with Haggerty who were excellent, much cheaper than anywhere else i could find and great service the one time i needed to claim.

Cheers,

Al

hi all,
after ringing adrian flux, i thought i would try footman james as i have always used them. i was in for a shock £325.00 asked if i wanted to go ahead i said i had had aa cheaper quote, so they said leave it with them and they would ring back. while i was waiting i rang carole nash £93.08p the only thing she was not sure about when i asked her was me having the first refusal on salvage if i were to write it off. ( still waiting for her to ring back ) then had a call back from footman james now they can insure me for £186.75p what a difference, pays to ring round and paly one off against another as tehy are all after our business. so now insured with full legal cover, europe cover, breakdown cover as long as i am more than a mile from home etc etc and first refusal on the car if god forbid i was to total it for an agreed value of £15k. now need to get to a major post office and get it then sent to swansea for an age related plate and like keynsham three years after importing it i can finally get to drive it legally on the roads. while i am waiting for the new log book i have a new uprated radiator to install and while that is out i am going to fit an air-con system i have as mine did not have it fitted from new. two pieces missing, but have found one, the other i can fabricate.

How did you go about the agreed value? Did you get a club valuation, or did you submit proof to the insurance company? I am insured with Lancaster at the moment but only for off road.

I've always found Footman James very good & my premium doesn't seem to increase much at all. All my cars are insured on the same policy which has grown organically over the years so I do think, however, that I wouldn't get the same deal if I was starting from scratch now. It has changed slightly in that I can now value my own cars & instead of paying a one off surcharge to cover them all for on-street parking rather than garaging, I now have to pay individually for any that are.

Not relevant to most on here but a friend of mine had his motor trade cover with Footman James up until 2 weeks ago when the renewel was 150% higher than the previous year
They weren't great at their explanation as to why and he has had to go elsewhere. His trade is also in classics so not like it's not their chosen field

They do seem good on the fleet type cover though :)

Motor Trade Insurance is all over the place at the moment. I had to move from Aviva last year after nearly 20 claim free years, because they pushed up the premium, and put financial restrictions on vehicles for the first time, for no reason at all. Went to another company that a mate of mine was with, and they hiked his premium this year, so looks like I'll be looking again come renewal time. Tried FJ and finally got a quote, but they were so difficult to get to answer the phone that in the event of a claim I think I'd have the same problem, so gave them a miss.
Loyalty to companies counts for nothing these days.

I've been with Boncaster in Brentwood for 14 years and the premium has hardly changed
They were once P6ROC recommended

MIne went up 40 odd % this year but I think that's because the guy did me such a good deal last time. He didn't last long but me and my Dad both had one cheap year  I changed last year due to the attitude over a non fault claim which I dealt with myself in the end even though the legal cover should have sorted it all out. A right cock up on their part left me without a tow vehicle for work :(
None of them ring you back or appear grateful for your dosh anymore :?

I was with aon for many years who were always excellent and always very reasonable (about £75 a year fully comp in Feb 2009) with salvage rights, agreed value £2000, 4 named drivers, ungaraged and unlimited mileage. About a year ago i was asked by Aon to renew with James Footman as James Footman had become part of Aon and Aon's classic car customers were being transferred to them. The price was just slightly higher but still very good and James Footman said they would keep the existing agreed value from Aon without further evidence for up to 3 more years before I needed a club valuation, they would give me all the benefits above as at Aon and neither I or the named drivers had to have another car as well as my P6. I think all this was done to keep customers transferring from Aon Private Clients Classic Insurance as I suspect their normal price was more than I was paying. I noticed the difference straight away..ages waiting on the phone and less knowledge of the policies they were selling without referral! I have not yet had my renewal which should come very soon (I hope) so I got some quick quotes on line anonymously from the James Footman website. These showed me that the renewal cost now is £135-52 but includes uk and european breakdown and personal accident cover, neither of which I want, at no additional cost. at no additional cost. Interestingly the cost(£135-52) was the same whether the mileage was £3000 or £6000 but came down to £98-92 at 1500 miles. It was also interesting to note that whatever amount I put in the quote was the same for all agreed values from £1 to £3500. Above that figure the cost increased. For example £3600 was £136-58 and £4000 was £140-82. The excess is £50. The online quotes were for the car being garaged but James Footman has told me on the phone last year that the price is the same for me whether it is garaged or not as long as it is off the road. This all of course applies to my North West London postcode. I await with interest the arrival of my renewal quote and it will be interesting to see if it is more than the ones I got from their on-line system.

Best Wishes

Tony Bunting
