Car SOS National Geographic TV

It's still a very poor copy of the idea behind "Overhauling"

I haven't seen SOS. But 'Overhauling' just tears the guts (& soul) out of cars, replacing absolutely everything with new & upgraded except the body. I can't really see the point.

At least they've done one car north of the M40 then. I haven't seen them come any further north than Oxford so far

Mind, it's grim up North - constant blizzards, all Labour councils and no proper roads  .

Its difficult to move around up north as well, all those people licking the roads clean every morning before they get up

Yes, I remember where I've seen him before now. He was with Pop Will Eat Itself (PWEI) during the 90's! Wow, reliving my youth somewhat here! :p

Another, albeit unintentional, flashback to my youth:-

National Geographic site says tonight's episode, "The Rover's Return", is a 72 P6. It's on at 8.00pm on National Geographic.

Nice result but I didn't really think they did a good job of the program and they sort of jumped from a car in bits to a completed car

Enjoyed it, nice to see a programme featuring the P6 at last. Thought the finished webasto looked like a tramps hat though.

I thought it was good, very brave at the start to use the jacking points  . Didn't those seats come up well ? Is Mark in trouble with Angie ? Overall a good effort and the guys face when the bus was moved was quality.

Very pleased at last that the P6 has its moment in the spotlight. Great car.

It presents a good question though: £100,000 in cash or a P6? P6 please.

I had no problem with the question because I couldn't imagine life wiithout a P6 regardless of the money and that's what the question was about, giving up P6's altogether.
I have driven/owned loads of different vehicles and best part of 50 P6's and I would always want a P6. My everyday car is a 1966 P6 and P6's have been around us for 25 years now, in fact, other than the first three months of owning a P6, I have always owned at least two. Currently we own 8 including an estate, the last p6 off the production line and a couple of breakers, and in amongst those, 5 are factory registered cars four being 'XC' plates and the fifth is 'VC' Coventry being used for factory registrations after Solihull VRO was closed.

And yes Angie was alright about the question that followed the money question, because she said she would keep her beloved General (her 2000TC) if she'd been asked the question, but then I think even her MGF is above me in the pecking order!!!!!

Hi All,

All in all I think they did a good job balancing the human interest part and the actual car renovation. Certainly the “reveal” at the end created a very positive reaction but I do wonder if it was tainted slightly by the fact that the owner hadn’t been directly involved. This owner was actively, all be it slowly due to his ill health, working on improving his car and although he may have struggled to ever finish it he was doing bits and pieces as time, money and his health allowed. I guess what I’m trying to say is that to some it’s the journey not the end result that is the buzz. Pretty much every classic, P6 rally car being the exception, I’ve ever restored/repaired/recommissioned etc….. has been sold almost as soon as the journey was complete.

I like the programme, I have it on series link and I’ll watch with interest them all but I hope those around me know me well enough to know that I’d be mighty miffed if someone took my project car away and finished it on me!!!!

As a car collector (not restorer) friend of mine here at work is very fond of saying, Classic car ownership is a broad Church with many different facets.

Overall a good programme I thought. They do tend to focus on the more sexy aspects of resto than the graft eg the panels, roof and interior rather than the welding and engine work. I guess that's what people want to watch though

Thought Mark came across very well (well done Mark) and I too wondered how similar Angie's answers would have been to those questions

I've have it saved on the Sky+ box (there are other generic hard drive recorders available  ).

I enjoyed it. Even Tim the co-presenter seemed to warm to P6s in the end and the Fuzz bloke came across as quite enthusiastic. Good to see Mark on the programme too. I suppose I was a little disappointed at not getting to see in detail all the work done - as well as the 1 hour programme, a 26 episode mini-series would have been good for us P6 anoraks .

yep i see this a few weeks ago and was wondering who the old boy was that thay got bits from? the bloke had a rover with all mint pannals but molty coulerd? dose anyone know the man and have his tel no or address thay done a nice job of the p6 thanks all
