Carb differences...which ones are best ?

I have traditional SU's with the outside fuel bowl, the integral type and Strombergs, 3 different types.
Why did they keep changing ? Is any particular type better ?
Are there any articles where I can read up about it all ?
Thanks.

Hi Hensen,

Here is a link which you might find informative.

The Stromberg carburettors were manufactured by Zenith, and like the SU carburettors, work extremely well at all different angles, the frequent domain of 4 X 4 vehicles.

When the Rover SD1 went on sale in Australia in 1978, the engine was fitted with Stromberg carburettors. Range Rovers for the Australian market from this time also featured these as opposed to SU carburettors.
The reason, so it is my understanding, was down to emissions. The former could be set much leaner without imposing running problems.

Ron.
