my rover 3500s has been converted to SD1 5 speed gearbox but when i select reverse the gear lever hits the centre console. has anyone else had this problem and know a way around it? Thanks

Yes. You can either shorten the sleeve on the gearlever, or, using the same screw as holds the console down at the front of the handbrake boot, fit two of them through the console behind the ashtray. It will limit the movement. The problem is you're using a quadruple gate gearbox in a hole designed for a triple gate, and with the gearbox at the required height, it happens. If the gearbox is jacked up too high on the mounting, it won't, but then the prop flange is in the wrong place.

[Edit] You can also adjust the gearlever stop on the remote on the gearbox to limit the travel that way. You need to set it so it allows the gearlever to select reverse, but goes no further than it needs to.

i did the easy way on mine cut a bit out of the console so it clears then fitted a new leather gaitor and looks much better then i replace the hole console for a wooden type
