Change/improvement you want to make

Ah you mean like this!! :)
A handy and comfortable mod I made when my left arm/wrist was in plaster!

I have a fairly substantial list in my project thread, but i'd like to hear people's thoughts on an uprated alternator.
Delco do very nice chromed 100 amp + universal and marine alternators for good prices.
Apart from the obvious cosmetic perk for my engine bay, i think having more capacity could only be a good thing when running all sorts of electrical extras?
I have seen mgbgt v8's running them, so they must be easy enough to retrofit- and are very similar looking to the lucas shape.

Will they handle charging a Gel Cell battery? if they do then it would be an especially good upgrade.

Off hand the only change that I haven't made that I would like to is the addition of a set of 15" or more aluminium alloy wheels. Not that I am unhappy with my 14" originals or Rostyles, more a case of being able to source good quality tyres into the future.

if you dont use it enough, then they do tend to go wrong more often.

Perfect reason to make it my daily driver...but would have to put on LPG if that were the case.

I'm glad!! The only yankee engine you should put in a P6 is a Buick one!!
Talking about stupidly large engines in a P6, didn't somebody recently work out that the Jaguar 5.3L V12 would fit if you, er, 'moved' the crossmember? Surely that has to be on somebody's wishlist!!
Then you'd have to call it a Rover P12 - not because of the number of cylinders but because it would just be taking the P122!!!

I am sure that I saw a brand new chrome 18ACR offered at around £70.00 somewhere, which puts out 65A.

This should just bolt straight on in place of your 18ACR - if that's what is on your car that is.

4.2L V8 TDI Quattro transplant.

To me one of the great things about an old car is the simpler nature of the engine and it's control systems... I wouldnt mind a change but i'd prefer something that i can tinker with and fully understand (One day!) on a hobby basis.

I can certainly understand that, however you'd be surprised

A. How little goes wrong with a modern Tdi
&
B. How easy it is to diagnose and replace sensors; plug in a $50 USB VAG COM and you can talk to and customise every customisable parameter and immediately determine the fault.

VW group provide Self Study Programs which make it easy to understand issues.

Sounds like you're in the right mindset for it and have done your research to me :) I really hope it goes well for you, but it's not for me :) Somehow in my mind i do relate to physical lumps of metal better than electronics i think ( and that's weird considering i'm a computer programmer and did a degree in computing and electronics.... what can i say :D )

What insane? :D

I have happily put 250000kms on my 2.0 TDI Golf and stepping up shortly to a Passat Tdi, VAG diesels are a marvellous engine.

My top three for our Western Australian summer, unbearable driving the old girl with a week of high 30's and low 40's Celsius that is...
1. Air Con
2. Air Con
3. complete the window tinting (done the rear window so far while it was out recently so the tinters could do it easily)

I have twin electric fans fitted which do an excellent job, but notice when the engine is turned off they cut in again (when key is at accessory as that is how they are wired from) so want to fit an electric water pump to get rid of the heat soak after the engine is turned off which makes the fans cut in again. I have a reputable electric pump to fit which will control cooling and operates the electric fan as well through its electronic controller and continues to run after engine off to negate heat soak and will enable the disconnect of the engine driven water pump. Its a project i would like to try...
Scott,

And there is Edlebrock manifold and Weber/Edlebrock 500cfm carby, hopefully on my future engine rebuild...
