changing form HS6 to HIF6

I've come into a set of HIF6 carbs off a '72 3500, and was planning on fitting them to my '70 3500s (previously had HS6's, auto choke w/AED). It doesn't look like the throttle linkage fits - the lower balljoint fouls on the manifold (not the rod between the carbs - the other one). My HIF6's came with a big pile of linkage.. but no manifold.

Is the inlet manifold actually different for the later 3500's.. or am I going to need to shorten that link rod.. a lot? :)

Hello Tedlit,

The inlet manifolds are actually different and there are three variations. The first two designs accomodated the HS6 carburettors, the final design which was also changed to improve engine breathing and flow characteristics accomodated the HIF6 carburettors.

There were also a raft of subtle variations in the linkages used even within the same type of carburettors. If you change the linkages to accomodate the HIF6 carburettors, you will most likely also have to either fit a different downshift cable, should the linkage changes preclude sufficient downshift adjustment, or adjust the cable accordingly to ensure that the transmission gear changes are as they should be.

Ron.
