chassis number

Hi everyone.

Just noticed on my series 1 V8 1968 that the chassis number ends in a D. Does that sound correct?

I thought that all series 1's ended in an A.

Chassis number is 42507017D.

Thanks

Steve

That sounds about right. I have a couple of 1970 series one V8s in my records that end in G. The suffix letter denoted changes in production details, some of which were quite minor. I doubt the A suffix would have lasted a year.

The suffix was more than production detail on occasion. The automatic 4-cyl cars were suffix E for example. I have a better list somewhere but can't find it.

That's curious Vern. All the other models seem to start with an A suffix. The TCs were introduced in '66 with an A suffix, as were the V8s. But I can't find any mention of a 2000 auto with less than an E suffix either. I presume it paralleled the 2000SC suffix at that point.

Hi all

Thanks for the info. I presumed that the suffix letters lasted longer or noted a change in models.

Thanks Colin for the site you posted.. really interesting.

I thought that my car and engine were from different eras but now not so sure. Could it be the original engine ? The bloke I bought it off thought it was an engine from a SD1 but it now doesn't seem that way .

Engine number 45106778 B
Chassis number 42507017 D

Is there any way of telling if the engine is original ?

Thanks

Steve

Hi Colin.

Thanks for the info and another good site.

I think that I will get a heritage certificate, it will be nice to find out a bit more about the car.
