Chassis Numbers

Just picking numbers off the TC today before I cover it up for the winter. Think I found the chassis number up front, and the engine number, but what is the number on the small plate found on the inside lip of the boot? This plate is attched with screws, and mine says "M6 079082".
I have a number of the glued on foil plates with key numbers , etc. Not sure which one if any , came from the TC.as I have owned a half a dozen 2000's in past years.

That's the Pressed Steel base unit serial number - almost in front of the spare wheel under the carpet on the lip. They all have them, or certainly well into the 1970's (not checked my later car).

At least on the early cars this is in number order...without digging out the photos I remember that the ex-Earls Court car, chassis number 100, that eventually ended up in the hands of Mr. Wilkinson, had base unit number 174 or similar - obviously counted the pre-production cars.

Couldn't resist it so just searched my photo archive.

Here's the label from 40000100A, which was the gold 1963 Earls Court Motor Show car (in the press shots it's the one with the boot mount, not the one Sid James is pictured in), which we saw, as recovered from a garage in Solihull, but before Mr. Wilkinson got his hands on it, in November 2003.

I didn't remember the number correctly. To save squinting it's number 142.

Cheers
Nick
